Round 3

Heat 1 Start Finish Heat 2 Start Finish Final Start Finish

Champion kart racer Felix has, this year, moved into the competitive world of British Cadet class racing on tracks across the UK. After two years schooling within the sport in the Bambino category, 2026 marks this young driver’s first season in a class provided for 8-12 year old racers.

A steep learning curve was expected, but Bedfordshire born Tandy has provided the established competition some fierce competition already.

Round 1 at Kimbolton proved the experience was necessary, some solid pace netted decent mid pack Heat finishes in the circa 30 kart grids, but progress was made in a wet Final and an excellent top ten finish.

The switch, however, seemed to flick for Felix at Round 2 in February. With random drawn, reverse grid Heats, the #127 kart was able to show front running pace, a cool head, and was rewarded with two second place finishes. This meant as highest points scorer, he would start the all important Final on pole position. A thrilling race saw the top three drivers together for most of the race, Felix pulling off a daring move on the final corner to steal second position, his first podium finish in his new category. On top of this, the club awarded Tandy with their ‘Driver of the Day’ award, listing his “calm and collected performance throughout the day”.

Round 3 carried on his fantastic form, always around the front of the pack throughout the day’s three races. An attempt for the lead around the outside at the first corner on lap 7 saw Tandy briefly out front, but eventually he settled for a hard earn third place finish, and many more valuable championship points.

Round 4 of the series comes up next, on April 12th.

Joe Marshall is looking to challenge for the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB title as he continues with the Wera Alliance Racing Academy and Team Parker Racing in 2026.

After a strong 2025 season, that culminated in a hat trick of victories in the final round of the championship at Brands Hatch GP circuit, Joe is hoping to bring that form into his 2026 campaign with the title firmly in his sights.

Talking about his 2026 hopes Joe had this to say –

“I’m super excited to go into my second year as a Wera Alliance Racing Academy driver. We had some amazing results last year, built up some great relationships with the Wera family and I can’t wait to get going for 2026!”

Alliance Racing Team Principal Pete Osborne had this to say on Joe retuning to the Academy in 2026:

“Its great to have Joe on board for another season in the Wera Alliance Racing Academy racing and for another year in the Porsche Sprint Challenge. He came so close to taking the title in his debut season, last year, with multiple victories throughout the season. We are looking forward to seeing him challenge again this season.”

Team Parker racing boss Stuart Parker is pleased Joe is returning for the 2026 season and had this to say:

“Joe was one of the revelations of the championship last year and only narrowly missed out on the title, so it’s definitely a case of unfinished business. He was on the podium more than any other driver and finished the year in really strong form, so I’m hoping we can pick up where we left off for this season.”

Returning Porsche racer Will Jenkins is going to be stepping up to the Pro class of the championship when he returns for the 2026 season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, with the Wera Alliance Racing Academy and Team Parker Racing.

After a strong debut season that produced a number of class wins, Will is looking to build on that in the Pro class of the championship, aiming to take his first overall win and is looking to challenge for the title.

While last season was always about learning the car it came with a lot of bad luck that Will hopes is behind him as he looks to take his experience into the new season.

Continuing in the Wera Alliance Racing Academy is a key part of Will’s return and he had this to say about it:

“This season will be my fourth season with the Wera Alliance Academy. Every year I have been extremely privileged and honoured to be selected to be a part of it. Each year I have seen the academy grow from strength to strength as I have moved up through the ranks, and the support we receive both on and off track has been heavily responsible for my success.

“The Wera Tools brand is something I am extremely proud to represent.

“The brand is becoming synonymous with success in motorsport, and I am confident that with the support of both Wera Tools and the Alliance Racing Team, I am well positioned to compete at such a high level.”

Alliance Racing Team Principal Pete Osborne had this to say on Will continuing in the Academy for another season:

“We’re delighted to be continuing our support for Will Jenkins into the 2026 season as he continues in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship. Will continues to impress year after year and now he’s stepping up to the Pro category. He had a fantastic season last year and we’re all eager to see him build on that success.

Stuart Parker, Team Principal at Team Parker Racing added:

“We’re really pleased to continue our associated with Will and the Wera Alliance Racing Academy. We’ve been running cars in Wera Tools branding since 2024, which is also the first year we ran Will in Porsche Sprint Challenge, and I’m really pleased with the close working relationship we’ve developed.

“Will showed real promise in his first year of Carrera Cup. He was a consistent points scorer and claimed two wins and several other podium finishes, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on in his second year of racing in the championship.”

In a UK first for the MINI CHALLENGE the Wera Alliance Racing Academy have announced a four car all women’s team to compete in the MINI CHALLENGE Trophy in 2026. Team Avago will be running the team.

Making up the four car team are Ellena Reece, Beanie Reece, Lexie Powell and Liona Theobald.

Sisters Ellena and Beanie Reece will be making their debuts in the MINI CHALLENGE this season with older sister Ellena coming from a pre war car racing background and Beanie making the cross over from a successful career on two wheels in Motocross.

Ellena had this to say about joining the academy and her hopes for the season

“Joining the Wera Alliance Racing Academy is a fantastic opportunity and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the MINI Cooper this season. My background in historic motorsport has shaped my passion for racing, and I’m looking forward to building experience, improving consistency, and learning as much as possible alongside such a supportive and driven team. I’m hugely grateful for the opportunity and so excited for the year ahead!”

”I’m incredibly excited and truly grateful for the opportunity to compete in the MINI CHALLENGE Trophy as part of a four-car women’s team.
This season also marks an exciting new chapter for me as I make the transition from two wheels to four wheels. My goal is to gain as much experience as possible in the car, continually develop my race craft, and improve with every round.
Alliance Racing Team Principal and Wera Alliance Racing Academy founder Pete Osborne had this to say:

As with all of the members of the academy we pride our selves on promise, talent and characters. These four young ladies have all of that in abundance. They’ve already enjoyed some testing together they had a great first test and were straight on the pace and all get on so well. Its important to us that we’re surrounded by like minded people and we all have the same goal of representing these great brands while enjoying the experience and that’s exactly what we have in this team. I’m also pleased to team up with Dave at Team Avago for what is a really important first year in the academy for all the girls.”

Ian Walford, Managing Director, Wera Tools UK, said

“Pete Osborne and I are extremely excited about our WeraTools/Alliance Racing Academy plans for this season including what we believe is the first time for an all-female team of drivers competing in a mainly male dominated championship. We welcome Beanie Reece, Ellena Reece, Lexie Powell and Liona Theobald into the Academy for the first time and look forward to their rookie year in the very competitive MINI CHALLENGE Trophy. It is an objective of the Academy to select drivers from a young and starting position in a competitor development programme to help them on the way in their racing careers and this very much includes females. Along with the experience of Team Avago, we will provide support and motivation for them to progress and we look forward to celebrating eventual podiums and championships with them.“

Dave Sutton from Team Avago, who are running the team in the MINI CHALLENGE this season didn’t need asking twice when the call came.

We are proud and excited to welcome the girls into our Team. Their dedication, courage, and enthusiasm for racing bring fresh energy and perspective to our environment, and we are committed to supporting their development every step of the way.

We look forward to seeing them grow in confidence, push boundaries, and inspire others, as we continue building an inclusive team where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

We truly believe that everyone should be able to follow their passion so to help give these girls this opportunity, we feel truly blessed and can’t wait to see them succeed.”

A rising young motorsport talent is turning heads across the stock car racing scene after an extraordinary debut season in Micro F2 racing. At just nine years old, Nico Tye has already established himself as one of the most promising young drivers in the sport, achieving exceptional results during his very first year of competition and for the 2026 season he is continuing in Micro F2 Stock car and will also be part of the Wera Alliance Racing Academy.

Having only started racing at the age of eight – and with no prior racing experience – Nico Tye quickly demonstrated natural ability, determination, and racecraft well beyond his years. Competing against experienced young drivers, he secured top-three finishes in over 80% of his races throughout the season, alongside an impressive tally of more than 11 race wins.

The young driver’s rapid rise has captured attention within the racing community, with spectators and competitors alike recognising his confidence on track, consistency under pressure, and willingness to learn and improve.

He is looking forward to building on that in 2026.

“My first season in Micro F2 has been amazing and I’ve learned so much. I’m really excited to be continuing in 2026 and to be joining the Wera Alliance Racing Academy. I can’t wait to keep improving, working with the team, and hopefully winning even more races.”

Alliance Racing Team Principal Pete Osborne had this to say:

“Starting something completely new is always a challenge but Nico has shown incredible dedication and focus from day one. His progress over the season has been amazing to watch, and we’re incredibly proud to have him as part of the Wera Alliance Racing Academy in 2026.”

“This year I’m moving up into the cadet class of racing. The karts are much bigger and faster than what I’m used to, which is fun, and I get to race on slick tyres for the first time! I’m really happy to join my friends again in the academy and support their races as well. I can’t wait to see my new livery on my kart, and hopefully get some more trophies!”

Dad Nick had this to say:

“We’re both delighted to once again form part of the driver academy, and continue to represent such loyal motorsport partners in Wera Tools and Alliance Racing.

Felix had such a wonderful and successful season last year as part of the group, it was so much fun to share that with the academy team and the other members.

2026 will see Felix step into the cadet age group of racers, taking on as many events as we can around the UK to build his experience and proudly display the Wera Alliance colours.”

Alliance Racing Team Principle Pete Osborne had this to say:

‘Fast Felix’ is already showing that he has all the qualities to become an exceptional racing driver. In his first season in the Wera Alliance Racing Academy he was winning on a regular basis and is already showing that he is up for the challenge of the next level after taking a second place in his first race in that category.

The Wera Alliance Racing Academy is driven by one core purpose: to support promising young talent and give them the platform, knowledge, and visibility needed to climb the ranks of the motorsport world. We feel that Felix fits that perfect and we look forward to seeing how he gets on this season.“

Alliance Racing is pleased to announce the signing of Alfie Garford and Murray Richardson for the 2026 season racing in the MINI Challenge JCW Sport class. They will be racing under the Wera Alliance Racing Academy banner.

After a breakthrough debut season in the MINI Challenge Trophy class Alfie gets the chance to test his skills in the faster JCW Sport class in 2026.

Alfie had this to say about making the step up and his hopes for the coming season.

“Looking ahead to 2026, the focus is firmly on taking the next big step forward with a move into the highly competitive JCW Sport category. It’s a formidable challenge, but exactly the kind of environment that pushes drivers to raise every aspect of their performance — and one I’m hugely excited to take on.

Continuing with the Wera Tools / Alliance Racing Academy for another season is a massive part of that journey. The academy has been central to my development so far, and having that familiar structure, support network, and shared mindset behind me again provides the perfect platform to tackle a new level of competition with confidence.

Joining me on that step up will be my 2025 team-mate and close sparring partner, Murray Richardson. Having raced closely together, pushing each other throughout the season, it’s exciting to take that rivalry into a new championship where we can continue to challenge, learn, and drive each other forward.

2026 represents more than just a new category — it’s the next phase of progression, surrounded by the right people, in the right environment, with the aim of competing at the sharp end and continuing to build toward long-term success.”

Murray, on the other hand, is only in his second ever season racing cars and comes off an impressive debut season in the MINI Challenge Trophy class that saw him building on his results and honing his race craft over the season that culminated in a victory at the Donington Park GP round of the championship.

Murray had this to say about his hopes for the season ahead and continuing his racing development in the Wera Alliance Racing Academy.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to grow and continue my journey with Wera in the Mini Challenge and I’m looking forward to pushing myself to new heights off the back of last year’s results in the trophy class! The aim for this year is to podium twice and hopefully secure a win! I can’t wait to show the talents of myself and the team by bringing home as much silverware as possible to make them proud!”

Alliance Racing team owner and Wera Alliance Racing Academy co-founder, Pete Osborne, had this to say about the signings

“With thanks to Wera tools, we’re delighted to continue our journey with both Alfie and Murray. They both had breakthrough seasons last year as team-mates in the Wera Alliance Racing Academy and worked really well as team-mates, so its great to keep them together as a team and progress their development by moving into the MINI CHALLENGE JCW Sport class.

“Like most of the drivers in the academy they’re at the early part of their careers, so we get to help them grow, both as racing drivers and as young men, and the fact they get to share these experiences is something I believe is very important to their ongoing development.

“The step up to the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE JCW Sport is an obvious one and it’s a great championship for drivers to improve their craft on the best circuits in the UK. We’ve been part of the Championship since 2022 as a team and it gets better and better, plus it’s a great opportunity for youngsters to compete on the BTCC package.

Nathan Tye has joined DRIVEX for his third season in the Spanish F4 Championship. He has also secured Wera Alliance Racing Academy backing for his 2026 campaign.

Tye, a British Karting graduate, has had an impressive junior career and already competed in two seasons racing in Spanish F4.

Seventeen-year-old Tye made significant strides in the karting world. His journey began in 2020 as British Vice Champion, but it was in 2022 that he built on his success by winning the Champions of the Future Euro Series in the OK Junior class. He also claimed a victory in the FIA Karting European Championship and secured third place in the overall standings.

Tye’s transition to senior karting was equally impressive. He finished third in the WSK Open Cup, fourth in the WSK Final Cup, and third in the Rotax Max Challenge Asia Festival. In 2023, he continued to compete at a high level, finishing eighth in the Champions of the Future series and tenth in the European Championship.

The 2024 season saw Tye make his single-seater debut in the Spanish F4 Championship with Campos Racing. Despite his rookie status, he managed to secure multiple top 10 finishes, several rookie podiums and two second places gaining invaluable experience ahead of his sophomore season in the sport. He then moved on to Rodin Motorsport where he continued his impressive form with 7th place finish overall in the Championship.

With all the experience he has gained Nathan is looking to become a regular podium challenger in his third season:

It’s a great honour to be part of a group that is focused on developing drivers at a high level, and I’m really motivated to make the most of this opportunity. Competing in F4 allows me to race on an international stage against some of the strongest young talent, which is exactly the environment I want to be in to keep pushing myself forward. My goal is to keep improving, deliver strong performances, and represent the academy professionally as an ambassador both on and off the track.”

“I’m so pleased to continue working with Nathan and his family. I’ve been a keen supporter of Nathan from a young age and his progression to Formula 4 has been remarkable.

Nathan and his family put so much effort & dedication into his motorsport, so it’s great to see that being rewarded on and off track. Especially in the style of last weekends dominant performance!

What we’re doing at the academy is so much more than just sponsorship; it highlights a genuine grassroots pathway from karting to professional motorsport and Nathan is a great example of that. We’ll be hoping for more results like last weekend now he’s set the bar so high!”

One of the drivers on the 2025 season academy roster is Felix Tandy, son of 24 hour racing legend Nick Tandy. Felix has been setting the karting scene alight with his performances throughout the season in the Super One MightE Bambino Championship culminating in him winning the championship after 7 final victories. 9 pole positions. 17 heat wins.

What you might not have been aware of is that he has been doing all this in an electric kart.

We spoke to Nick about how the electric revolution makes sense in the karting world and if it is a more expensive way to race and whether or not is has improved the racing.

Apart from the means of propulsion what are the differences between a petrol and electric kart?

The electric karts run on exactly the same chassis and tyres as their petrol counterparts. The weight is slightly heavier due to the battery but the throttle pick up is instantaneous as you’d expect from an electrified vehicle

Is there much difference in cost between the two?

The cost of racing at the top level is much, much less. This is one of the reasons MSUK have adopted the electric class in bambino as their only certified series. In two stroke bambino, to compete, some drivers would have multiple engines that require multiple rebuilds per season. In electric, we had the same motor unit for two seasons and had zero rebuild costs

Are they easier to maintain?

Maintenance of the motor unit is minimal. However, this just gives more time to the team, or the parent, to focus more maintenance on the actual kart chassis. So hours don’t go down, you just end up focusing on the entire kart, not just the engine.

Has it had any effect on the racing?

The racing in the electric series has been the best we’ve ever seen. With slower fossil fueled classes, the gaps between the drivers based on how much power they have can often be huge. In electric, every single motor kit is tested to be identical to each other. So it produces extremely tight racing, and as a result, teaches the young drivers lots of race craft

Do you feel this is the way to go for the future of karting?

I’m also a petrol head. That’s why we love racing. But karting is probably the most adoptable form of motosport on the planet currently to benefit from electrified powertrains due to the short nature of the races. I see two and four stroke petrol being around for a long time, but once legislation demands, there is already a tried and tested alternative which keeps the racing spirit alive.

Is it safer than a petrol kart?

Both petrol and electric karts are both extremely safe to operate. However there are other parts of karting safety that I do believe can be improved, and the FIA and MSUK are looking at these topics. Wheel guards for example, whilst not part of the history of go karting, is an area where I believe driver safety can be improved.

Has Felix had to change his driving style for the electric kart?

Driving style doesn’t change at all. A fast driver is a fast driver. And I’ve seen that the kids learn a lot more due to not worrying about the difference in engine performance, instead focusing on their own driving capability.

Is it good for the environment going forward?

The drivers just want a good race, and in bambino the racing has been excellent in electric. For the wider world however it does make sense to have less emissions, but also less noise as many rural circuits suffer with noise complaints nowadays.

To cap off the season Felix has just been named the Radio Le Mans Young Driver of the year.

The curtain came down on an incredible 2025 Mini Challenge Trophy season at the iconic Brands Hatch circuit, as the Wera Alliance Mini Race Team returned with its familiar trio — Alfie Garford (#88), Murray Richardson (#8), and Jenson Mason (#185). The season finale, held alongside the legendary Truck Racing and Fireworks Spectacular, drew a sell-out crowd to cap off another thrilling year of MINI action.

Friday – Finding the Pace

Friday testing began in damp conditions, but the Wera squad wasted no time getting up to speed. The drivers worked together to fine-tune their setups, and by the end of the day, all three were showing strong pace. Richardson impressed with quick lap times, while Garford and Mason consistently featured toward the top of the timesheets — a promising start to the team’s final weekend of 2025.

Saturday – Qualifying Drama

Saturday brought drying conditions and a bold call from all three drivers to switch to slicks for qualifying. With the surface still tricky, it was a test of balance and bravery. With just five minutes left on the clock, disaster struck — Murray Richardson lost control at Graham Hill Bend and rolled after digging into the damp runoff. Thankfully, he escaped unharmed, though the car required major repairs. Despite the disruption, the Wera drivers delivered an excellent session:

• Alfie Garford – P3

• Jenson Mason – P9

• Murray Richardson – P19

Race 1 – The Comeback

The Wera mechanics produced a herculean effort, repairing Richardson’s MINI in just two hours. Under bright skies and a buzzing crowd, Race 1 lived up to the hype. Garford charged as high as fourth before being caught in a mid-pack melee that briefly launched his car airborne — dropping both him and Mason down the order. Both fought back brilliantly, crossing the line sixth and seventh respectively, while Richardson impressed with gritty racecraft to finish where he started, completing an amazing recovery drive in a freshly rebuilt car.

Sunday – Race 2: Championship Showdown

Sunday morning dawned bright, with a sell-out crowd packing every vantage point around Brands Hatch for the penultimate race of the season. The energy was electric, and all eyes were on Garford, the only driver still with a mathematical chance of snatching the title from championship leader Alex Keens. When the lights went out, both drivers made strong starts, running firmly inside the top four. Garford knew he needed everything to go his way — and for Keens to hit trouble — but the title favourite drove flawlessly. As the laps unfolded, Keens edged into the lead and began to build a commanding gap, while Garford continued to push hard in pursuit. By the chequered flag, Keens crossed the line to seal the 2025 Mini Challenge Trophy title, with Garford finishing just behind in a composed and competitive drive. The young rookie was among the first to offer congratulations to his rival, a gesture that earned admiration across the paddock and perfectly reflected his maturity and sportsmanship.

Jenson Mason brought his car home in a brilliant P3 he also took the Rookie win and also fastest lap, and Murray Richardson finished P21.

Race 3 – The Grand Finale

The final race of the season brought the biggest crowd of the year — with monster trucks, live music, and fireworks setting the stage. Garford lined up P3, Mason P8, and Richardson P14. With just three points separating Garford and Rhys Hurd in the fight for Vice Champion, the pressure was on. At lights out, Garford held third while Mason and Richardson both gained positions, with spectacular lunges. The early laps saw Garford and Hurd locked in an intense duel for second, with Hurd eventually slipping past and moving into the lead. Garford fought back hard, pulling off spectacular overtakes and showing pure determination. With five minutes remaining, an incident caused a red flag, but Garford was able to continue. On the restart, both Garford and Mason launched brilliantly, moving into second and fourth respectively. On the final lap, under yellow flags, Garford looked set to secure Vice Champion, but a rival dived inside, pushing him to fourth at the flag, while Mason stormed to a superb second place. Richardson’s drive through the field to finish 11th, the youngster showing a never give up attitude, with lap times faster than the leaders, capped off an incredible performance in his debut season.

Team Commentary

Team Principal Pete Osborne said, “This year has been fantastic. These boys have shown maturity and improvement beyond what I expected. Alfie’s rookie title and third overall in his first year is an outstanding achievement. Murray should hold his head high — to take a race win halfway through his debut season and now be matching the front-runners is outstanding. Jenson has been superb all year — his pace and results in the final rounds show just how strong he’s become. All three lads have done me, the team, and our partners incredibly proud.”

Driver Reflections

Alfie Garford added, “This year’s been great. It’s our first year in the MINI Challenge, so we had a lot to learn, but from the start I knew we could be competitive. My goal was a podium finish in the championship, and that’s exactly what we achieved — plus the Rookie title, which feels amazing. Of course, there’s a bit of disappointment not to win the overall title, but I’m going away really proud of how I’ve driven and how much I’ve learned this season.”

Jenson Mason said, “It’s been a strong finish to the season for us. The pace has really come alive in the last few rounds and to end the year with more silverware feels fantastic. The car felt great all weekend — huge credit to the team for all their hard work.”

Murray Richardson commented, “What a year! My first full season of car racing has been an amazing learning experience. Getting that first win earlier in the year and now running on the pace of the leaders gives me massive confidence heading into next season.”

Summary

It was the perfect conclusion to a landmark year for the Wera Alliance Mini Race Team — three drivers, one united squad, and a season full of speed, progress, and pride.
