Team Shredded Wheat Racing
with Gallagher signed off the 2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship
season in memorable style with a return to the rostrum at its home circuit,
Brands Hatch (October 12/13).

Closing off a rollercoaster season, the Kent-based squad made a welcome return
to the podium with two Independent race wins, and an incredible five top-ten
results during the action-packed triple-header season finale.

An expert on the Brands Hatch GP layout, Tom Chilton kicked-off his final race
meeting of the year with a stunning drive from P19 to P3 in the weekend opener.
Having struggled to find the perfect set-up in tricky qualifying conditions,
the Reigate-racer made an inspired call to switch to wets under the safety car
appearance. With the tyres coming into play as the rain fell in the closing
laps, Chilton carved his way through the field with a flawless drive to snatch
3rd from Butcher as the pair charged across the finish line.

Having claimed his 4th podium of the year in race one, Chilton immediately
followed up with another sterling drive in the #3 Focus RS. Avoiding an opening
lap melee, the Ford battled hard against the lighter chasing pack to lead home
the first-ever Motorbase Independent 1-2-3 in P5, securing his 4th Independent
win of the year.

Regrettably, any hopes of a third rostrum appearance were cruelly dashed in
race 3, with Chilton’s race abruptly brought to an end on lap 2. Having made a
promising start on the soft tyre, the 34-year-old looked to be in strong podium
contention before a heavy rear-end shunt pitched the #3 Focus into a huge
sideways slide into the gravel trap at Westfield.

Recording his second-best points-scoring weekend of the season, Ollie Jackson
also settled his maiden Motorbase BTCC season in fine style with three top-ten
finishes on his home circuit. Coming through from P20 to break into the top ten
in race 1, the Beavis Morgan and Alcon-backed driver showed excellent
race-craft and strong pace to follow up with a P6 finish in race two.

Starting from P7 in race three by the reversed grid draw, the 35-year-old
produced one of his best drives of the year to bring the season to a close.
Holding off title contenders Cammish, Ingram and a fast-charging Turkington for
over 10 tours of the circuit, an outstanding defensive drive rewarded Jackson
with a P8 finish in the #48 Focus RS.

Thanks also to an outstanding performance from Chilton and Jackson’s
stable-mate Michael Caine who claimed two further point-scoring finishes in the
#44 Motorbase Performance Ford Focus RS, Team Shredded Wheat Racing with
Gallagher ended its 2019 campaign as the highest points-scoring Independent
team of the weekend – a fitting tribute to conclude its successful three-year
partnership with Shredded Wheat.

Team Manager Oly
Collins:
“A nice way to sign 2019 off. After a difficult qualifying on Saturday we
started on the back foot, but it was a great performance from everyone today.
The drivers were great, the team behind the scenes, and pit-stops, were spot on
as well. It’s always difficult in these conditions.

“The decisions were tricky all day with the weather being so changeable
and that puts pressure on the engineers, mechanics, tyre guys, etc to make the
right decision and get the job done. So coming away with some silverware
and a brace of top ten results is good.”

#3 Tom Chilton:

“We have lots of positives to take from race day. We went from 19th to 3rd in
race one and got an Indy win and 3rd overall. I have to say what a great job
the team did on the tyre change. I didn’t give them any warning and they were
epically fast. I literally called for wets as I came into the pits and they did
so well and so quickly that led to our podium finish.

“Race 2 we had ballast on so it was a bit tougher out on track, but we did a
great job. The reverse grid hurt us a little bit but I got a cracking start in
race 3. My tyres were geared up to come into play later in the race. I was just
starting to feel like my peak was coming in before Cook fired me off. I
genuinely feel that we could have had three podiums this weekend.

“What was great in race 2 was leading home my team-mates Ollie Jackson and
Michael Caine for an Independent’s 1-2-3. That was a massive high. It’s been a
hard year for the team so that was a great result and I’m very happy for
everyone at Motorbase.”

#48 Ollie Jackson:
“It looked like we were in for another sad turn of events this weekend but
actually we turned it around on race day.

“We’ve been a bit experimental with the car set up this weekend and it’s really
paid off. We’ve moved the car on, unfortunately, it was right at the last round
but it’s been mega today. The car has been so different this weekend that we
didn’t really crack the set-up for qualifying, but today we got it right and it
paid off.

“It’s been an up and down season. To come here and race against the
championship contenders as we have this weekend shows that we’ve got the pace
and the team can do the job is massively important.”

Results:

#3 Tom Chilton:

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher returns to its home circuit
this coming weekend for the 2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship
season finale at Brands Hatch (October 12/13).

Although out of the running for
the championship title, the Wrotham-based outfit is eager to sign off the
season in fine style as it also reaches the end of its three-year partnership
with Shredded Wheat.

With the Motorbase Performance
workshop less than five minutes away in nearby Wrotham, Brands Hatch is a firm
favourite of the squad. The team has celebrated more wins at its local circuit
than at any other track over the years, and always attracts fantastic local
support.

Reigate-racer Tom Chilton took
his maiden win of the season on the Indy layout in the season opener back in
April, and is looking to end a challenging year for the Motorbase-run squad on
a high note on the iconic GP circuit.

Ollie Jackson is also hopeful of
a happy ending to his Motorbase return after a successful season. Also racing
at his home circuit, the Surrey-man took his maiden Independent win earlier
this year, and is keen for a rostrum return in front of his home crowd.

“We’re looking forward to ending
the season on a high at our home track;” commented Team Manager Oly Collins.
“We always love coming to Brands Hatch. It’s a fantastic venue to open and
close the BTCC.

“We started our campaign at
Brands in April with Tom on the top step of the podium. Since then, 2019 hasn’t
quite gone to plan as a season-long challenge, despite the pace we’ve shown at
times.

“Once again we may see weather
commanding the weekend which always makes things a little trickier for the team
behind the scenes, but that’s the same for all of us.

“It will be a shame to run in the
Shredded Wheat colours for one last time, but we’ve been proud to represent
such a huge brand in the BTCC.”

#3 Tom Chilton:

“I’m really excited to get back
to our local track for the team and myself.

“Last year I had fantastic
memories from having such an incredible team and teammates behind me to help us
clinch 3rd place overall and 2nd in the Independents Championship. We went into
Brands GP last year with a lot of success ballast and qualified what felt like
near the back, but I was next to Turkington and Ingram. The ballast is a killer
around the hilly GP circuit more than most. But with the help of my teammates,
I carved through the field from the back to 9th. Then went on to take 6th and
just missed out on the podium by tenths.

“We always go well at Brands and
I’m hoping to end on a high for everybody. We are 3rd in the Indy standings and
top 10 in the main championship, but I want better so will never give up.”

#48 Ollie Jackson:

“I can’t believe we’re already here at the
last round. It’s been a challenging season with some big highs and lows. The
aim is to end on another high and really go for it this weekend. It’s my
favourite track of the season, not to mention my local and I’ve had some great
weekends here in the past.

“We’re also trying something very
different with the set-up. Hopefully, it will unlock some more pace from the
car. We’re expecting to be competitive, but if we get it right, we can steal
some last-minute glory.”

Rounds 28, 29 and 30 of the 2019
Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship take places on the Brands Hatch GP
Circuit on October 12/13. Live coverage of Sunday’s (October 13) events will be
shown on ITV4, ITV4HV and via the ITVhub from 10.30 – 18.15; with itv.com/btcc
featuring live timing and streaming of Saturday’s (October 12) qualifying
session from 15.00.

Team Shredded Wheat Racing
with Gallagher stormed back into the top-five during an action-packed final
showdown during the penultimate Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship
meeting of the season at Silverstone (September 28/29).

The weekend delivered yet another rollercoaster set of results for the
Motorbase-run squad, with changeable weather conditions upsetting much of the
running order for the BTCC grid during rounds 25, 26 and 27.

After taking a solid P11 in qualifying (beaten to P10 by Proctor setting the
exact same lap time just minutes earlier) Chilton claimed a promising top-ten
result in the opening race, a result that was later amended to P9 after Jordan
was penalised for his push-to-pass move on the #3 Ford.

Free of the soft compound tyre for race 2, the Reigate-racer hopes of securing
a top-five finish were sadly short-lived. Innocently collecting a piece of
displaced advertising hoarding up in the opening laps, Chilton was forced to
pit on lap 8 with an overheating engine caused by the debris covering the
radiator. Re-joining at the back of the pack, the 34-year-old managed to
salvage a P20 place.

A frenetic finale brought the weekend’s event to a close with a classic touring
car crowd-pleaser, with Chilton producing a superb zero-to-hero drive on the
1.64-mile National circuit layout to take 5th at the final flag.

With all but two of the 30-car grid heading out on slicks, the race quickly
became a game of strategy as the rain returned. Taking a gamble to switch to
wets on lap 5, the #3 crew’s tyre selection proved to be an inspired choice as
the heavens opened once more. Scything his way through the field as the laps
unfolded, Chilton expertly picked his way up the order to cross the line in P5
from P20, an outcome that looked to be way out of reach just moments earlier.
Ollie Jackson’s weekend sadly proved to be best forgotten. Struggling to string
the perfect lap together in qualifying, the Alcon and Beavis Morgan-backed
racer found himself on the back foot in P18.

Caught in the messy mid-field, contact in the opening race derailed his chances
of moving up the order and into the points-scoring zone and he eventually
crossed the line in P18. Race two fared better for Jackson who despite taking
another heavy shunt from behind, managed to add to his points tally in P14.

In an almost polar opposite result to his team-mates final race, Jackson fell
afoul of the sudden change in weather. After making a stunning start on the
greasy track, the 35-year-old was running as high as P5 and looking at an
all-but-guaranteed podium spot. Opting to stay on slicks along with the
majority of the front-runners, he regrettably tumbled down the order as the wet
tyre runners came into play and eventually crossed the line frustrated in P19.

Team Manager Oly
Collins:
“It was unfortunately another weekend of what could have, or should have been.
Saturday was difficult for us as we struggled to get a handle on the circuit
which started us off on the back foot.

“We found some pace in the car today but didn’t convert it in to the results.
Tom was desperately unlucky in race 2 to collect the advertising board forcing
him to pit and lose any chance of a result. Thanks to Tom’s call for wets in
race 3 we did manage to snatch a result from the weekend.

“Ollie was just caught up in other people’s incidents this weekend. I think he
had a target on his car today. He was running great in 5th until the
weather came in.”

#3 Tom Chilton:
“We obviously started the final race in 20th after the shenanigans of
the hoarding hitting my car in race 2, which was extraordinarily bad luck.
Where we were at the time, I know we would have finished in 11th,
which is what was pulled out on pole. I feel gutted we missed out on the
reverse grid.

“I saw Goff pull in early to change to wets, and I almost followed but the team
were still saying no at that point. I think it was the right call, as it still
wasn’t wet enough at that point. But as soon as the safety car came out we
decided to make the switch and it paid off. It was exciting; I was just carving
through the field and feel sure we could have made the podium with just a few
more laps.

“I believe that you make your own luck in racing, but I do have to say that
we’ve had a particularly bad run of luck this year.”

#48 Ollie Jackson:

“I don’t know how I could have done any better today. There’s no point where I
think I could have driven any better, and there’s no point at which I could
have done something differently. It’s just been a shocker of a weekend.

“Race 3 could have been a completely different result if the rain had held off.
Unfortunately it was almost a curse of running so high up that we couldn’t risk
or give up a P5 position to change to wets. I can’t think of another time when
a tyre change in a modern BTCC race has ever produced results like that. No-one
could have predicted it.”

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher heads to it home circuit next for the
2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season finale in two weeks’
time, on October 12/13.

Results:

#3 Tom Chilton:

Motorbase
Performance is saddened to confirm that Nicolas Hamilton will not complete the
remainder of the 2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season as part
of the Kent-based squad due to sponsorship complications.

Nicolas joined the Wrotham outfit this
year with the plan of completing a full-season campaign in a specially adapted
Ford Focus RS. Unfortunately, recent sponsorship issues have resulted in the 27-year-old
being unable to take part in the final two race meetings at Silverstone and Brands
Hatch.

“It’s an unfortunate end to what has
been a very positive season for Nic;” commented Team Principal David Bartrum.
“We’ve been on a truly unique journey together this year, and I’m sad that we
won’t have the opportunity to complete it.

“It has taken a huge amount of effort,
hard work, and determination from Nic to reach the BTCC grid;” he added. “I
think he’s shown that he’s a very capable driver, and surprised people along
the way.

“Everyone at Motorbase Performance
wishes him the very best with his journey and future motor racing career.”

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher collected an impressive haul of points during an action-packed Scottish outing for the eighth Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship meeting of the year at Knockhill Racing Circuit (September 14/15).

Tom Chilton was the biggest scorer of the weekend for the Motorbase-run squad, securing three solid top-seven finishes in the #3 Ford Focus RS, with team-mate Ollie Jackson battling back from a tough start to break into the points in the final race of the day.

Qualifying delivered a mixed bag of results for the duo. A superb flying lap by Chilton saw the Gallagher-backed racer secure a 2nd row start in P4. Jackson – who was testing a new brake pad compound for the series – found himself just 3 tenths off his stablemates pace, but placed in P18 against the closely-matched field.

A promising podium spot looked to be all but in the bag for Chilton who made a lightning start off the line. Taking Cammish for third with a bold move on lap 9, he settled the RS into position and was closing the gap to the race leaders before hitting loose gravel on the track shortly after. Bravely keeping the Focus on track, the slide dropped him down to 7th which he held to the flag.

Jackson was making steady progress in the early laps, making his way up into the points-scoring zone and looking set for top 12 finish before disaster struck. Avoiding a melee ahead, the Surrey-racer took a huge hit from behind, causing significant suspension damage. Nursing the #48 Focus around the circuit as he dropped down the order, he was unfortunately hit from behind again, sending him into the cars in front and resulting in race-ending engine damage.

A huge task from the #48 crew called for a complete engine change in under an hour and a half as the countdown to race 2 loomed large. An outstanding effort from the squad saw Jackson join the back of the grid on the final green lap flag as the grid repaired to race once more. With a renewed Focus, Jackson delivered a sterling drive to take a very credible 18th at the flag.

Chilton’s pace was evident once more in race 2, with the 34-year-old making up two places in the early laps. A mature drive from the Gallagher-backed racer was rewarded with a 5th place finish and another excellent haul of points to add to his collection.

The reversed grid draw dropped the #3 Focus back to P6 for the final race of the day. Running on the less favourable medium-compound tyre with 30kg on-board, Chilton defended hard against the lighter pack to eventually cross the line in P7, securing his third top-seven finish of the day and topping up the squad’s points tally.

Ollie Jackson’s perseverance was finally rewarded in race 3. With the team having time to set-up the car following the engine rebuild, the Alcon and Beavis Morgan-backed driver was able to pick his way through the pack to take P15 at the final flag and collecting his first point of the weekend.

Team Manager Oly Collins:
“A strange weekend of what could have been. Tom did a great job in qualifying which we know is so important around Knockhill. He was then extremely unfortunate in race 1 when looking really solid in a podium spot. He managed to get 3 top 7 finishes which is a good weekend. Ollie was going well coming back up the order in race 1 when damage through no fault of his own cost him a strong weekend. Looking at who he was comfortably ahead of in race 1 who then went on to podiums in race 3 it frustrates you even more. But, that’s the BTCC. It’s fine margins between a great and a frustrating weekend.

“The team were amazing all weekend, and to get the engine change in such a short amount of time was incredible. They worked so well as a unit. Knockhill is always a tough weekend for the team behind the scenes. We also had really strong pace this weekend, the car was back to being a top 3 car, so lots of positives.”

#3 Tom Chilton:
“We did a great job in qualifying to get P4 and I feel sure that we would have had a podium in the bag in race 1. I made a great move on Cammish to take third and then closed down on Jordan really quickly. We were the fastest car on the track at that time and absolutely flying. Just as I came over the crest of the chicane, however, I didn’t know there was about a huge dump of gravel on the exit. It was like an ice rink when I hit it. I did well to hold it such a massive tank-slapper, to be honest. But that dropped me down to P5. I tried to make it back up on the closing laps with a move on Turkington, but it sadly didn’t come off, he pushed me wide and we dropped back to 7th.

“I made a good start to get up to 5th in race 2, but then the tyre went off a bit and we couldn’t really do much more. Race 3 with the medium tyre was hard work, so I’m really happy to come away with three top-seven finishes. That is a solid weekend. I’m happy with that, but a bit upset that we didn’t manage to get that podium in race 1. We did a lot of hard work on the set-up of the car and it was working really well this weekend.”

#48 Ollie Jackson:
“Our qualifying result was frustrating as we had a brake issue which cost us a small amount on lap time. Unfortunately, a small amount of time loss here has a huge impact on the grid order.

“I had a good start in the first race and made up some places. We were looking good at breaking into the top 10 or 12. An accident happened in front of me and I backed out and took a heavy hit from behind that damaged the rear suspension quite badly. The car was pretty wounded at this point. Then I got rammed again and pushed into another car which damaged the radiator and blew the engine.

“The boys did an amazing job to do an engine change in under an hour and a half. They managed to get me out for the 2nd green flag lap with stone-cold tyres. I sat there for a lap or two letting the tyres warm up and cracked on. Race 2 was a good, fun race and we made up some good places.

“We had more time to sort for race 3 and the car was mega. It was just traffic which made it harder to make more progress; I had the legs to move up further. We left Knockhill in a good place with the car being a top ten performing car. Just a disappointment with what happened in race one, which put us on the back foot.”

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher remains 3rd in the Independent Teams standings and 8th overall, with Tom Chilton having improved his championship position to 10th overall and 3rd in the Indy standings ahead of the penultimate meeting of the 2019 season at Silverstone on September 28/29.

Results:

#3 Tom Chilton:
Qualifying: P4
Round 22: P7
Round 23:: P5
Round 24: P7

# 48 Ollie Jackson:
Qualifying: P18
Round 22: DNF
Round 23:: P18
Round 24: P15

Championship standings:

Driver Championship
1 Colin TURKINGTON Team BMW 268 points
2 Andrew Jordan BMW Pirtek Racing 258 points
3 Dan CAMMISH Halfords Yuasa Racing 257 points
4 Josh COOK BTC Racing 238 points
5 Rory BUTCHER Cobra Sport AmD AutoAid/RCIB Insurance 227 points
10 Tom CHILTON Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher 156 points
18 Ollie Jackson Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher 55 points

Team Championship
1 Halfords Yuasa Racing 426 points
2 Team BMW 392 points
3 Cobra Sport AmD AutoAid/RCIB Insurance 362 points
8 Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher 209 points

Independent Driver Standings
1 Josh Cook – BTC Racing – 336 points
2 Rory Butcher – Cobra Sport AmD AutoAid/RCIB Insurance – 335 points
3 Tom Chilton – Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher – 259 points
10 Ollie Jackson – Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher – 180 points

Independent Team Standings
1 Cobra Sport AmD AutoAid/RCIB Insurance 392 points
2 BTC Racing 391 points
3 Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher 338 points

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher took three hard-fought points
finishes during a tough return visit to Hampshire’s Thruxton circuit for rounds
19, 20 and 21 of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship.

Heading the fastest circuit on
the calendar full of promise, mechanical issues, on-track contact and
qualifying woes sadly put paid to the Motorbase-run squad’s podium hopes during
the seventh BTCC meeting of the year. A gritty fight back, however, managed to
salvage three points finishes from the squad’s misfortunes.

Struggling to unlock the full
potential of the Focus RS during Saturday’s free practice and qualifying
sessions, Tom Chilton and Ollie Jackson found themselves in P16 and P14 spots
respectively for the first of Sunday’s three races.

Chilton’s hopes of recovery in
race one were quickly dashed when the #3 Focus RS was forced to return to the
pits on the green flag lap with a turbo issue. The Reigate-racer was quickly
despatched, however, the best result he could muster was P22 having raced from
the back of the pack. Contact picked up on the opening lap curtailed Jackson’s
efforts, and the #48 Focus took the flag in P15.

Aiming for the top 12 with the
hopes of a reversed grid draw result in race 3, Chilton recovered well to scrap
his way up the field and into 12th.
Jackson regrettably dropped back to 18th as a result of some
door-to-door on-track battles.

Just missing out on the reverse
grid benefit, Chilton made a strong opening charge from P12 in the final
contest. With the imminent threat of rain looming, the 34-year-old had caught
up to the pack battling for 6th place with just 3 laps remaining.
Biding his time as Plato, Sutton, Ingram and Cook all jostled for position as
the heaven opened he made a brave lunge round the outside as they charged into
the complex. Having almost completed the stunning move, the #3 Focus RS took a
heavy hit from behind, resulting in a huge slide which forced Chilton to make a
dramatic save. In spite of his heroic efforts, the incident dropped him down
the order, and he eventually crossed the line in P22.

Although less dramatic, Jackson’s
consistent points-scoring efforts continued in race 3, with the Alcon and
Beavis Morgan-backed racer picking up his eighth points finish from the last
nine rounds, taking 15th at the final flag.

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with
Gallagher remains 3rd in the Independent Teams’ standings and 8th
overall ahead of the next race meeting at Knockhill in four weeks’ time. Tom
Chilton currently sits 12th overall and 4th in the Indy
standings, with Ollie Jackson in 18th and 9th positions.

Team Manager Oly Collins:

“That was a tough weekend. We came to
Thruxton with optimism and promise after recent weeks of testing and
development with the Focus but we didn’t get it right when it mattered. Our
pace in FP2 suggested we had the car in a place where we could qualify well
which is so important round here. But when you qualify that far down in the
BTCC it’s always going to be a big ask.

“On race day any glimmer of hope
sadly failed to come to anything. We need to learn from our failings this
weekend in every area and make sure it doesn’t happen again. We have a great
team and this weekend didn’t reflect that.”

#3 Tom Chilton:

“Thruxton is still one of my
favourite circuits, just not in a Ford Focus. We’ve moved forwards from when we
last came here. I was P4 in free practice two and we made up another 3 tenths
in qualifying but it just wasn’t enough. Everyone else made up more. Sadly
qualifying where we did, just put us on the back foot.

“To be honest I was having a
great last two races. We had a quick car in race 3, were making up places and
then it all bunched up at the chicane. I did a great move on Sutton as it
started raining and then I just got a huge hit from behind that lifted my back
wheel off the ground. That put me into a humongous backwards slide in 5th
gear and ruined my race. I think we could have made top six or seven from
there.

“Knockhill is next though. I won
there last year in the wet. We know that the Focus goes well there as well. I’m
hoping for a little more luck.”

#48 Ollie Jackson:

“It’s been a challenging weekend
again and we’ve not really been on top of it all weekend. We improved the car
over the course of the day, but unfortunately so did the back half of the
field. That’s what has hung us out to dry unfortunately. I think we’ve shown
flashes of pace but we’ve not quite get a handle on it. Thruxton turned out to
be a bogey track for us last time out and it’s been another one for us. At
least we’ve come away with some more points.

“We’ve got three rounds coming up
next that suit the focus and we’ve got to make hay while the sun shines. As
long we can keep our noses clean, I think we can have three really strong
meetings.”

Results:

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher returns to Thruxton circuit
brimming with confidence this coming weekend, as the Kwik Fit British Touring
Car Championship makes its second visit of the season to the fastest circuit on
the calendar (August 17-18).

Looking to get its championship
challenge back on track as the BTCC tackles one of its most demanding circuits;
the Wrotham-based outfit arrives at the fearsome Hampshire track buoyed by the
recent performance of its Ford Focus RS machines. Competitive running on the
hard-compound tyre, in particular, has helped to refocus the team’s resolve to
bring the fight to the championship leaders.

Last time out at Snetterton
proved to be a rollercoaster of a weekend for the Motorbase-run squad. Ollie
Jackson celebrated his maiden independent win at the Norfolk track just over a
week ago, on what was his most successful BTCC weekend ever, collecting points
in all three races and picking-up three top-ten finishes.

Sadly, after qualifying on the
second–row, Tom Chilton’s hopes of claiming an all-but-guaranteed podium were
thwarted by a freak puncture in the opening race leaving the Reigate-racer to
rue what might have been as he battled his way from the back of the grid to
collect points in the weekend closer.

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with
Gallagher endured a challenging visit here earlier in the season, and both
Chilton and Jackson are keen to right this wrong this time around, and
hopefully recreate some of the team’s previous successes on the former wartime
airfield.

Thruxton has been good to us in
the past;” explained Team Manager Oly Collins. “We celebrated our first 1-2 as
a team here as well as various podium trips and wins. It’s a fantastic circuit,
one which the drivers love when the car is working well.

“Last time out was mixed
emotions;” commented Team Manager Oly Collins. “Ollie had his best weekend ever
in the BTCC with an Indy win. Sadly Tom, who was cruising to a podium in race 1,
was cruelly denied by a freak puncture which ruined his whole weekend. As they
say, that’s motorsport and it’s firmly behind us.

“Thruxton will be an interesting
one, with all teams going back to the hard tyre all weekend. We’ve learned a
lot since our last trip to Thruxton in May so we’re confident of getting some
good results. The weather may play a part but we have no control over that. We
feel as prepared as ever and will be looking to build Ollie’s good results and
changing Tom’s fortune as his speed is definitely there. He’s just been lacking
the luck in recent race weekends.”

#3 Tom Chilton:

“Because we were so competitive
at Snetterton I didn’t come away as disappointed as you’d think. It was just
down to pure bad-luck picking up the puncture when we did.

“Going into Thruxton where we
really struggled on the hard tyre at the beginning of the year, I now think
that we’re going to be top-six fastest on the grid for sure. I’m really
confident about that.

“I’m excited about going back
there. It’s one of my favourite circuits, but we didn’t have the optimum set-up
last time out. We’ve cracked that now, so I’m feeling positive. We’re
definitely going to be in the mix this weekend.”

#48 Ollie Jackson:

“Thruxton wasn’t that great for
us last time but we’ve got a much better handle on the hard tyre now so I’m
looking forward to picking up some strong results. I think if we can keep our noses in the top
ten and keep banking the points, then a reverse grid podium or win won’t be
that far away.

“We’ve made big strides in
understanding the hard tyre. The car is unrecognisable from when we last went
there and we’re not going to struggle this time. The car will be strong, it
just comes down to how much faster everyone else is as well.”

“It will be interesting to see
how it plays out this weekend. The recent test really seemed to mix things up
at Snetterton. I think that the grid will look very different from last time we
were there.”

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with
Gallagher celebrated a superb trio of top ten results and Independent race win
during an action-packed sixth meeting of Kwik Fit British Touring Car
Championship season on Norfolk’s Snetterton 300 racing circuit (August 3-4).

It was a weekend of mixed
emotions for the Motorbase-run squad, with Ollie Jackson collecting his maiden
Independent race win, and best-ever BTCC points haul as the second half of the
season got underway. Sadly, it was a case of what might have been for his
team-mate Tom Chilton, whose early potential was derailed by a puncture in race
1.

Coming off the back of a
successful two-day tyre test at on the Norfolk circuit, both Chilton and
Jackson put their learnings to good use on Saturday, securing P4 and P12 spots
respectively in the afternoon qualifying session.

Sunday’s opening race held much
promise early on. Charging off the line, Chilton pulled off an outstanding
switchback move on Tordoff as the race leaders headed through the first corner,
storming past the Honda to steal into third. Sitting in strong podium
contention, a devastating puncture fired Chilton off track at high speed as he
raced through Coram, pitching him into the barriers and ending his race after
just 5 tours of the circuit.

Running on the prime-tyre for the
weekend opener, Ollie Jackson was on career-best form at the Norfolk track.
Scything the #48 Focus RS through the field, he made his way up through the
order, holding off robust challenges from Matt Neal and a fast-charging Simpson
to eventually cross the line in 8th.

A lightning start in race 2 saw
Jackson take 6th by the first corner. Duelling with Tordoff as they raced down
the straight, a bold lunge was rewarded with a step-up P5. A challenge for the
race lead on lap 7 delivered the perfect opportunity for the Motorbase-man to
strike. As Ingram, Turkington, Cammish, and Jordan all jostled for position,
Jackson kept a cool head before making his move to steal into 4th. Securing his
best finish of the season so far, Jackson’s superb drive also netted him the
Independent race win and his first podium of the year.

Chilton’s weekend looked to be on
the up, with the 34-year-old making attacking straight off the start line.
Working his way up into the mid-pack in the early laps, the #3 Focus looked set
for a points finish and possible reversed grid draw spot before getting caught
up in an on-track incident between Jelley and Cook which regrettably dropped
him down the order. A commendable fight-back saw him eventually cross the line
in P17, having made up an impressive 12 places.

The final race of the weekend
delivered plenty of drama with tyre strategies all coming into play for the
final 12 lap challenge. With the Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher duo
both running the less-favourable hard-compound as track temperatures cooled,
both racers faced a hard battle on track against the faster-charging machines
running on softs.

Jackson led the way once more
with an excellent defensive drive. Carrying 30kg of success ballast on-board
the #48 Focus, his tenacity was repaid with a P7 finish, ending the day with a
third top-ten finish and his best-ever BTCC weekend.

Racing in heavy traffic, Chilton
did well to stay out of trouble as he raced wheel to wheel with Neal and Goff.
Pushing hard in the closing laps, he showed his true class once more to break
into the points-scoring zone, bringing the #3 Ford home unscathed in P12.

Although a mixed bag of results
for the two drivers over the weekend, the Motorbase-run team has made huge
strides forward with the Ford Focus RS machines and heads to Thruxton full of
confidence ahead of the Kwik British Touring Car Championship’s return in two
weeks.

Team Manager Oly Collins:

“I’m absolutely thrilled for
Ollie and his side of the garage. He put in an outstanding performance all day
today and got the results he has been promising all season. Unfortunately,
Tom’s day was pretty much over from lap 5. He was so unlucky to get the
puncture so early in the race. He was in such control and on for a guaranteed
podium which would have set the tone for a great weekend and a decent haul of
points. Unfortunately a result like that in race 1 spoils the whole weekend. There
was absolutely nothing he could do.

“On the plus side we had pace all
day today and Ollie got his first Independent win. Great teamwork from all
involved and we go to Thruxton in a buoyant mood. And what an awesome race 3 it
was too. A true, classic BTCC race! “

#3 Tom Chilton

“The weekend started off great by
qualifying 4th and then race 1 looked set to be a great race after moving up to
3rd at turn one. I almost got Cammish for 2nd, too. I had preserving the tyres
in my mind at that point, to try to potentially get a second and then we got a
slow puncture. We just picked something up on track somewhere which caused the
slow puncture. The tyre eventually pulled itself off the rim, and that was it.
I went into the wall.

“So from looking at a nice easy
podium and being one of the fastest here, to where we ended up was not what we
wanted at all. A podium finish would have resulted in a totally different
weekend for us. I would probably have been in the top 5 in the championship,
but now we’ve dropped down to 10th and we have a big job ahead of us to close
that gap now.

“Taking the positives away, our
worst tyre was the hard and we were only 2 tenths off the fastest time on the
hard tyre in race 3. I genuinely feel like we have one of the fastest cars on
the grid, but definitely had the worst luck today. I’m gutted, but we’ve got 3
more rounds on the hard tyre, and our car is epic now so I’m excited about
Thruxton.”

#48 Ollie Jackson

“Really successful weekend, the
car has been fantastic, the team have done an awesome job and I’m delighted. It
feels like a watershed weekend! There are still a few little bits of the puzzle
that I still need to fill in, but I feel like now it’s rocking and rolling.

“I’ve finally managed to pull it
all together to get us all the results that I’ve been threatening to get all
year. All we need to do now is make that next step and to build from here and
make that next step onto the podium. It’s definitely a huge confidence booster
for me now heading to Thruxton in a couple of weeks.”

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher is set to resume its title
push this coming weekend as the second half of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car
Championship season gets underway at Snetterton Circuit (August 3-4).

The Motorbase-run outfit heads to
Norfolk in confident form after topping the times during the annual Dunlop tyre
test on the 300 circuit two weeks ago.

Tom Chilton took top honours from
the two-day programme, clocking up the most Km’s and setting the fastest
lap-time, with team-mate Ollie Jackson closely paced, posting the third-fastest
time overall.

Having unlocked key potential in
the Ford Focus RS during the extensive mid-season test, Chilton and Jackson are
more determined than ever to close the gap to the championship leaders as the title
battle picks up pace once more.

14-time BTCC race-winner Chilton
is looking to add more silverware to the race win and three podiums already
under his belt this season, with Jackson keen to build on his promising race
pace from the first half of the campaign as he pushes for consistent top-ten
finishes.

“Coming back from the break we’re
keen to keep the momentum of our mid-season test going, and to show our
strength for the whole of the second half of the season;” commented Team
Manager Oly Collins.

“We had a great test at
Snetterton recently with both Tom and Ollie setting the fastest times on each
of the two days, which was great. That said we don’t know quite where our
competitors were, we only know what we were doing. But we know it was a positive
test for us in many ways.

“I feel sure the normal
protagonists will be quick with BMW and Honda in particular but hopefully we
can repeat that pace this weekend. It looks like the weather may play a part in
the results as well as the mix-up of the new tyre regulations for
Snetterton, with all three compounds coming into play on Sunday.”

#3 Tom Chilton:

“We managed to qualify third and
finish 5th here last year in the 60th-anniversary race which was quite
something. After setting the fastest time in the test a couple of weeks
ago we’re arriving with very positive heads to get our 2nd half of the year
underway in the right manner.

“Oulton Park did not go our way
at all, but it did mean that we looked at the car closely during the test, and
the Focus is in a much better place now. We covered a lot of ground during the
two days, and we now have the right set-up for each tyre.

“The BMWs will be the cars to
beat for sure this weekend, even with full weight, but we’ll be a good position
to give them a run for their money! Hopefully, my years of experience will put
us in good stead. Experience equals points; that’s what I’m hoping for. I
really want to get a win this weekend; it’s been a while since I’ve taken a win
at Snetterton.”

#48 Ollie Jackson:

“On paper, it should be a good
weekend for us. We’ve made great strides forward with the car. I’m
feeling at one with it, so hopefully, we can convert that into good results and
get the monkey off our back.

“If we can run confidently and
comfortably in the top ten and then push for the top 5 and maybe steal a
reverse grid result I’d be really happy with that. I think we deserve a break.

“It’s going to be interesting to
see how things play out with the three different compounds. I wouldn’t be
surprised if most of the grid runs the same tyre in the same races, so it might
not mix things up as much as usual. We’ve got a handle on the set-ups for each
now so we should be in a good position for all three races come Sunday.”

Rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the 2019
Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship take place at Snetterton circuit,
Norfolk on August 3-4. Live coverage of Sunday’s (August 4) events will be
shown on ITV4, ITV4HD and via the ITVhub from 10.45 – 18:30; with itv.com/btcc
featuring live timing and streaming of Saturday’s (August 3) qualifying session
from 15.00.

Tom Chilton proved to be the fastest man on
track at Snetterton this week, heading up the overall times during the annual
Dunlop tyre test on the Norfolk circuit (16/17 July).

A total of 32-racers, many from this year’s
Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship grid, took to the track for the two-day
test programme ahead of the series’ next meeting on the Snetterton 300 layout
in just over two weeks’ time.

Setting the benchmark 1:56.144s lap during
the morning session of the opening day, Tom Chilton also clocked up the most
number of laps, completing an impressive 163 tours of the circuit in the #3
Ford Focus RS.

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher made it a double on day two, with Ollie Jackson setting the fastest lap of the day during the Motorbase-run squad’s morning run. With a lap time just shy of his team-mate’s best efforts at 1:56.290s, Jackson ended the test in third overall.

“A great couple of days testing in all
areas;” Team Manager Oly Collins commented. “It’s
always encouraging to be fastest, especially with the way the test was run.
Being quickest is great. It’s nice to see both our cars at the top of the
timing sheets, but it’s the work covered during the two days that shown in the
detail behind the scenes – rather than on a fastest of the day sheet – which is
more rewarding.

“We now just need to put all that we learned into action at
Snetterton and make sure we can challenge for the championship in the second
half of the season.”

Tom Chilton #3:

“Honestly
it was one of the best tests that we’ve ever had. We tried a lot of things that
worked on the car and we’ve come away with a great handle on the car now, and
its performance on the soft, medium, and hard compounds.

“We ran
through lots of qualifying and race runs over the two days. Everything you need
to do to make the car faster, we did. We ticked all of the boxes we needed to.
We covered a lot of ground and we’re really positive heading into the second
half of the season.

“The
fact that both Ollie and I were fast out of the box shows that we’re dialled
into the car. We’re one of the best teams on the grid, and we should be a lot
higher up than 8th in the championship. With the ground we’ve covered,
I’m very excited about going racing again in a couple of weeks.”

Ollie Jackson #48:

“We got through a lot of things
that we wanted to try out over the two days. We established a lot of things
that were going on with the car and rolled out a few new things that we wanted
to try out.

“It looked like quite a few people
were pushing to beat our times, and we managed to stay stop of the board. You
never know exactly what everyone is doing but looking into the detail, it looks
like we’re there or thereabouts now in terms of running at the front.

“The results so far this year
haven’t given justice to the pace we’ve shown. This helps to draw a line under
that, and the job for the rest of the year is to get the results and to
capitalise on the pace we have.”
