Alfie Garford had a near perfect weekend for round 3 of the wera tools British Kart Championship at Shenington near Banbury.

A wet qualifying session on the Saturday would see Alfie grid up in 3rd place for the 2 heats. A fight for the win in both of these would see Alfie finish in 3rd and 2nd respectively.

A glorious Sunday enabled the championship to bolt on the slick tyres for the first time of the weekend. Alfie lined up on Pole position for the morning Pre-final.

A poor start saw Alfie drop down the order but after gathering momentum he would climb back up to first place and with a few changes for position would cross the line victorious!

Alfie would line up on pole for the all-important bragging rights final of the day. A great start saw Garford with a comfortable cushion after lap 1. For the next few laps the gap grew and grew giving Alfie a ‘bring it home’ style lights to flag win. But… the pace slowly started to drop, and lap by lap the competitors caught up. A fault with the carburettor was found after the race, but for Alfie at this point he had to just stick in there and get what he could. He dropped down to 3rd position fairly quickly, and with the end of the race nearing, the defence for 1st started which enabled Alfie to stick in for the fight. He eventually crossed the line in a well-deserved 3rd place.

Alfie’s championship rivals all had good and average results throughout the weekend, but with Alfie’s consistent top 3’s in Wet and Dry conditions he has now moved to 2nd in the champs, 2 points behind the lead.

Next round comes along early September at a track Alfie grew up at in his early years of racing, Whilton Mill. So expectation to continue on the current form is high!
