Silverstone international was the host for the last round of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship, and Wera team mates Jenson Mason & Alfie Garford strolled in to the paddock full of confidence after excelling at their previous race at Thruxton.
FP1 & 2 went well with the duo setting near on identical times to both pose a threat to all others in qualy.
With a stop start qualifying session, the pair were quick to get a lap on the board and sat 2nd and 4th for the majority of the session. Unfortunately Jenson’s car would grow a power gremlin in the latter half of the session that would plaque him and his engineers for the rest of the weekend. Garford was able to set his best lap at the end of the session 0.1’s of pole and the duo would line up 4th and 10th.
Race 1 was an epic race all the way through the field. 6-7 car dices for position, and the Junior drivers raced fantastically. Jenson was stuck in the mid pack. He made some superb moves to get through the field only to be swallowed up by the pack down the straight while still suffering from power issues. Alfie had broken clear of the pack Jenson was in and also had a race long fight for 2nd place. The boys crossed the line in 3rd and 8th so positions gained but wanting more!
Overnight Mason had made the decision to swap the engine in the hope that this would cure the power issues he had been having, so with the midnight oil burning the car was race fit for the 10am race Sunday morning.

Race 2 and a tremendous start from both cars saw Garford fighting for 2nd and Mason up to 6th. Garford’s initial scrap for 2nd had enabled 1st place to gap him by 2.5 seconds. Hammer time and over the course of the race slowly but surely Garford reeled in the leader and on the penultimate lap, he got the job done. But….. He left the door open into vale and the lead was taken away, then to add 2nd place followed through. Alfie could try to fight for 2nd but settled for 3rd by the line. Jenson drove a really exceptional race but once the front pack had extended a gap, it was hard to claw back. The gremlins reappeared in the second half of the race and it left Jenson struggling to keep in the toe of the cars in front, so to finish P8 really was a remarkable achievement but of course he was wanting lots more.
The last race, and the final race of the year. Both boys wanted to finish on a high. Alfie was in a shot at the ‘Silverstone Championship’ and needed to beat Jacob Hodgkiss by 2 places. Both Jenson and Alfie were fighting it out between them for 3rd place in the Championship.
Status quo for garford as he saw the leader get away whilst sorting out his position with Hodgkiss and champion elect Finn Leslie. As they settled down they began to mount a challenge at catching the leader. Mason as he always does, made a stonking initial couple laps and got himself into 5th place. Looking like the car was perhaps now sorted he had to catch the pack garford was in. but it was one of those weekends were it just didn’t fall right, and he had company from a car that looked a little bit over powered to the rest of the grid? This just hampered his chances of getting to the 2nd place scrap he was racing so well to get to. On the plus side, Jenson entertained the crowds with some spectacular moves for position and crossed the line in a well earnt 6th place. Garford’s race long hunt for the leader unfortunately needed just a couple more laps and so an eventful race saw the youngster cross the line in 3rd to make it 9 podiums in the last 9 races something no other driver had done all season.
The duo end their 1st season together with Garford 3rd and Mason 5th in the championship.
Pete Osborne Alliance racing team principal said after the race – ‘it’s bitter sweet. Both lads are front runners but we were plagued with issues on Jenson’s car otherwise they would both have been up the front fighting it out together. They have had a fantastic year, I’m proud of them both! We’ve enjoyed wins, poles, podiums and crashes together and they are part of our amazing Wera Alliance family!
