Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher heads to Donington Park next weekend, with the championship lead set firmly in its sights as the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship resumes for rounds 4, 5 and 6 on April 27/28.
Tom Chilton leads the way for the Motorbase-run squad after a superb season-opening weekend at Brands Hatch earlier this month. The 34-year-old arrives at the world-famous national circuit in winning form, sitting second in the standings and just 4 points off the current leader.
Team-mate Ollie Jackson was less fortunate in Kent, with an electrical fault and contact resulting in two DNFโs from the opening three rounds. The Midlands-based racer, however, showed encouraging pace in the #48 Focus RS and is confident of getting his championship challenge off the ground at his local circuit.
โFollowing on from Brands Hatch, weโre going into the Donington rounds upbeat;โ said Team Manager Oly Collins. โBoth Ollie and Tom had great pace at Brands on race day and we head into next weekend P2 in both Team and Driversโ championship standings.
โDonington always gives a good indication of where the competition is. Brands Hatch threw up a few challenging weather conditions which mixed it up a bit. Weather permitting; we will see who has the genuine pace in their cars after the Donington weekend.
โEveryone involved in the team at Motorbase is on top of their game right now and the intention is to let the results continue to show that.โ
Tom Chilton, #3, Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher:
โDonington Park is a great track. We had a really productive test there a couple of weeks back. We found some extra time in the car and made some great headway with the handling and the balance of the Focus. That work should hold us in good stead.
โWeโre in a great position going into the weekend. The BTCC title fight is all about consistency and scoring points. Thatโs the plan for Donington, to pick up straight from where we left off at Brands.โ
Ollie Jackson, #48, Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher:
โWeโve put Brands Hatch behind us now. Itโs time to move on from the bad luck we had there and look to capitalise on the good pace that we showed.
โDonington Park is my local track for when Iโm up in the Midlands. I work locally so Iโve spent a lot of time there. I love the national circuit. Itโs a great track and one of my favourites of the year. The Focus is strong there as well, so hopefully, weโll kick start our campaign off in style.โ
